Another good guy passes on:

ROBERT STACK DEAD AT 84

Robert Stack, whose film and TV career spanned more than
six decades, died at his home Wednesday. He was 84. Best-
known for his portrayal of crime-fighter Eliot Ness on the
1960s television show, "The Untouchables" and for hosting
the popular true-crime show "Unsolved Mysteries," Stack
also made more than 40 movies dating back to the 1939 film,
"First Love." He also starred in "The High and the Mighty"
opposite John Wayne, "Written on the Wind" with Lauren
Bacall and "Good Morning, Miss Dove" with Jennifer Jones.
Although his last appearance on the big screen was in the
1998 comedy, "Baseketball," he lent his distinctive voice
to animated characters in "Hercules: Zero to Hero," "Butt-
Ugly Martians" and "Recess: School's Out." Stack's wife,
Rosemarie, said she discovered him slumped in their Los
Angeles home at about 5 p.m. Wednesday. The actor, who
underwent radiation treatment for prostate cancer last
year, apparently died of heart failure. Stack is survived
by his wife of 47 years and children, Elizabeth and Charles,
both of Los Angeles.
