I think that culture is not the only deciding factor. For the island
nations(Britain, Japan, and others) survival is the prime motivator to
go out and get that empire. After all(not knocking anyone), Germany
almost knocked the Brits out in WWII. I believe it had something to do
with food as well as material stocks just not enough being there. These
island nations have to have commerce to support their population(food)
and industry(materials) at the current levels. After WWIII, who knows
how necessary that need for commerce will be? I don't know, but I
suspect that it won't be AS necessary. I believe that, for a while,
Britain will manage to feed herself before going out to see what's
there. They will(IMO) need room or trading partners as their population
expands-I am sure that history has pointed that one out to all of us.
