I was thinking along the lines of having the dogs and trainers being placed
together.  The dogs would be capable of breeding, with a potential of
having more bitches than sires.  This would allow the team to repopulate
the breed if necessary.

This would be a specialty unit, but would also be capable of carrying out
multiple missions, from the MARS type to the Recon type.

On a psi note, the handlers could be espers with some sort of empathic
communication affinity with the dogs.
