I mentioned this 6x6 cargo carrier member of the FV 600 family--to be
more specific, the Alvis Ltd. Stalwart High-Mobility Load Carrier (Mk I
or Mk II). It was originally designed by Alvis as a private venture,
using components of the 6x6 Saladin Armored car and the 6x6 Saracen APC.
It performed so well that the British Army purchased it as a cargo
carrier for their army. It has a payload of 5 tons and an excellent
amphibious and cross-country capability, comparable to many tanks.

Richard Tucholka must have liked it as well--when he left TMP and went on
to do FRINGEWORTHY he included the Stalwart (and the XR314 [upgraded
XR311] and the Hummer and the "Moskovi b" armored car, which looks
suspiciously like a Ranger APC...)

Anyway, the Saladin/Saracen/Stalwart family of 6x6 vehicles are a good
example of the ability to provide a series of wheeled vehicles have
excellent cross-country capabilities. Too bad the project didn't use
them....
