Nuclear Winter

Walt-

I did say I belived in a LIMITED nuclear winter. As much as I respect Dr.
Sagan, he was an alarmist on these matters. (One could say that he wasn't,
due to the nature of the game we're discussing!!!!)

In the southwest the herds of mustangs are already adapted to the
environment. Lots of cattle, too. And the buffalo aren't gone yet. (In
fact, they were never even on the endangered species list!)

My concern was for the more settled areas where there were GREAT
differences in summer and winter temp. Angela says that up in the NorthEast,
the East, the MidWest, and the Northern plains, a Nuclear Winter would drive
any wild herds that didn't just die far to the South, to join those wild
herds down there. Wild Texas Longhorns in central Mexico. Farmers will have
to butcher much of thier larger animals due to lack of a growing season or at
least reudced crop yields.

In 1886 (?) the island of Krakatoa blew up. The following year had
spectacular sunsets due to airborne particles kicked up by the volcano. In
America and Europe it was refereed to as the "Year Without Summer". While
NOT doom-and-gloom, Nuclear Winter seems liklely to some degree. Instead of
snow in the Sahara, maybe two or three years of summers with highs in the
50s? This would still have a GREAT impact on the survivors, who don't need
this on top of everything else.

Funny you mention Clancy and INDs (Improvised Nuclear Devices) in the same
breath. I use a variation on "The Sum of All Fears" to start my OOOOPS!. I
just adjust to fit the current world situation, take good old Jack out of the
picture, and OOOPS!
Good-bye Denver!

And I even do it on Superbowl Sunday! (I hate football, except for the
Army-Navy game. Catch the score this year? My H.S. buddy that was Navy
Intel & SEAL was sick when he found out.)

Thanks for your comments - send more:-)
