We used the character sheet as it was, slightly modified for specific
basic gear & additional skills. Other equipment was on it's own sheet.

We had an unwritten rule that players had to determine where the character
carried their gear, but we didn't make them list the specific locations.
We actually had one exception where we felt a player was being
unreasonable with what the character was carrying & how he had everything
handy all the time. Other than that people were good about determining what
went where when the wrote up the character's equipment.

We figured minimal gear in pockets- MPID and some other stuff. Then the
necessities like ammo & minimal survival gear was in web gear, and all the
other stuff you could probably live without (for a while at least) went in
the pack. It's a very common method, and it works well. Then you never part
with your web gear while in the field without a darn good reason.
I do basically the same thing with my Search & Rescue gear, although
instead of web gear I use a fanny pack.

Ugh! NEVER write those things down! Talk about asking for trouble. Unless
you want the players to have those written down so the PD *can* cause
trouble..... :)
