[mp-gg] Re: Stryker not so good?

I have worked with these. The raised area allows placing plenty of radio
gear. However, the batteries are exactly the same as the smaller M-113.
Whoops. There is a generator on the front, outside the armor, that provides
power when the motor is off, to prevent rapidly depleting the batteries. It
is one noisy MF. Whoops. We usually hooked ours to a trailer-mounted
generator. This was also noisy, so doctrine called for removing the
majorly-heavy generator from the trailer and digging a hole in the ground in
which to place it, for noise suppression. It took four of us just to shift
that b**** around in the trailer. Whoops. The 577 swims with a good bit more
freeboard than its M113 progenitor. However, the 577 is much more top heavy,
and wants to flip over when swimming. Whoops. It did have a nifty "track
extension" mounted on the rear over the ramp. Once you parked the track, you
set up the pole frame, then unrolled the canvas tent over the frame. This
formed a command post with much more room, both horizontal and vertical.

The 577 was not too terribly bad, but it was not exactly a Winnebago,
either.
